MDF vs. FJP
MDF can be a clean, stable choice for painted trim, accent walls, wainscoting, and decorative details. FJP, or finger-jointed pine, is also commonly used for painted trim and can be a good choice where a wood-based material is preferred.

MDF can be a clean, stable choice for painted trim, accent walls, wainscoting, and decorative details. FJP, or finger-jointed pine, is also commonly used for painted trim and can be a good choice where a wood-based material is preferred.
Some carpentry is meant to be stained so the wood grain remains visible. Other work is paint-grade, where the goal is a smooth, crisp finish after filling, sanding, priming, and painting.
For a higher-end look, trim and built-ins can be sprayed for a smoother luxury finish. Brush and roll methods can still be effective for simpler projects, touchups, and practical updates when the budget or space calls for it.
